It has not yet been accurately determined whether or not prolonged or even short-term steroid use can be addictive. However, there is evidence that steroids may be addictive. Withdrawal symptoms include physiological and psychological manifestations such as, “erratic behavior, fatigue, insomnia, depression, and restlessness, just to name a few” (Rubins 10). The reason it is so difficult to determine if steroids are addictive is that age, gender, dosage, and a myriad of other factors must be taken into account and this has not yet been fully researched.
